Aberdeen1 /abdin/ a city and seaport in NE Scotland, the administrative capital of Grampian region; pop. (1991) 201,100. In modern times Aberdeen has been named the 'Granite City' after its granite buildings and quarrying industry. It is a centre of the off-shore North Sea oil industry.[1]
